Having the motto “Let’s all Enlightened and Meritorious, Nobody be Ignorant and Weak” the PES has started Arts and Commerce College in 1995, with the vision of providing quality higher education to the students from diverse backgrounds, irrespective of region, religion, caste, economic strata and academic performance. At present the College offers B. A. and B. Com. under-graduate degree courses of three years duration each, affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The college is accredited with B grade from NAAC and is recognized by UGC under 2f and 12b. The Commerce wing is under non-grant basis since 2012. The College sensitizes its students on gender and environmental issues through celebrating national / international days, organizing awareness / sensitizing lectures, street plays, quiz competitions etc.

Higher education for students from rural, hilly and economically backward area.

Mission:

To promote higher education for the students in rural, hilly area and particularly female students.

To generate a sense of self respect, equality and self development among them.

Objectives:

To aim at character building and personality development of the students through curricular and extra curricular activities.

To create the work culture and dignity of labour among the students through NSS and other extra curricular activities.

To prepare students for competitive examinations.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) Bachelor of Commerce (BCom)
First Year BA (Semester I & II)

Eligibility:

Passed HSC (Arts, Science or Commerce) or Equivalent Examination.

Compulsory Subjects: Marathi, Foundation Course I, Communication Skills in English

Optional Subjects:

Group A: English I, Hindi I, Geography I.

Group B: Marathi I, History I, Economics I.

 

Second Year BA (Semester III & IV)

Eligibility:

Passed FYBA, or ATKT for FYBA.

Compulsory Subjects: Foundation Course II, Business Communication

Optional Subjects:     

Group A: English II & III, Hindi II & III, Geography II & III.

Group B: Marathi II & III, History II & III, Economics II & III.

 

Third Year BA (Semester V & VI)

Eligibility:

Passed FYBA, SYBA or ATKT for SYBA.

Group A: BA in English (six units) OR BA in Hindi and Geography (three units each)

Group B: BA in Marathi (six units) OR BA in History and Economics (three units each)

First Year BCom (Semester I & II)

Eligibility:

Passed HSC (Commerce or Science) or Equivalent Examination.

Subjects: Foundation Course I, Business Communication, Mathematics & Statistical Techniques I, Environmental Studies I, Business Economics I, Accounting & Financial Management I, Commerce I.

 

Second Year BCom (Semester III & IV)

Eligibility:

Passed FYBCom, or ATKT for FYBCom.

Subjects: Applied Component (any one): Advertising, Cooperation, Travel & Tourism.

Subjects: Foundation Course II, Business Law I, Financial Accounting & Auditing I, Business Economics II, Accounting & Financial Management II, Commerce II, .

 

Third Year BCom (Semester V & VI)

Eligibility:

Passed FYBCom, SYBCom or ATKT for SYBCom.

Compulsory Subjects: MHRM, Business Economics III.

Applied Components (any two): Marketing Research, Labour Welfare, Export Marketing, Trade Union & Industrial Relation, Direct & Indirect Taxation, International Marketing, Management of Small Scale Industry.

Special Subjects (any one): BCom in Financial Accounting & Auditing (three units each), BCom in Business Management (three units each), BCom in Commerce (three units each)

College Working Duration

Teaching: 7.30 am to 12.30 pm (Monday to Saturday)

Library: 8.30 am to 4.00 pm (Monday to Saturday)

Office: 9.30 am to 5.30 pm (Monday to Saturday) (2nd and 4th Saturday holiday)

First Semester: 18th June to 05th November 2018

Second Semester: 26th November to 4th May 2019

Mid-term Vacation: 13th to 17th September 2018

Diwali Vacation: 06th to 24th November 2018

Winter Vacation: 26th December 2018 to 01 January 2019

Summer Vacation: after 05th May 2018

Examinations: As per the Schedule of the University.

The following merit scholarships are given to the students having academic merit.

The college also tries to invite opportunities of financial scholarships for the needy students, from various funding agencies, such as, Hindustan Petroleum Company Ltd Scholarship and Association of Non Govt. Colleges Scholarship.

The Excellent Achievements of Arts and Commerce College Phondaghat

The college has won the First Prize in ‘Jagar Janivancha Abhiyan 2013 & 2014’ (Gender Sensitization Mission) at Sindhudurg District and Mumbai University level, awarded by the State Government of Maharashtra, for excellent efforts for empowerment of women.

The college has organized two National Seminars, one in Geography on the theme of ‘Western Ghats and Biodiversity’ and second one in Marathi on theme of ‘Paraphrase, Translation and Adaptation,  successfully.

Co – Curricular Activities

Taking into consideration the skills and inclination of the students and the local needs of the time for job opportunities, various certificate courses (career-based add-on courses such as Beauty Parlor, Tailoring, Mehndi Designing, etc.) are run by the college, in collaboration with Janshikshan Sansthan Sindhudurg, which are helpful for the students’ employability in future. The faculty takes several efforts to nurture creative and critical thinking and to develop the scientific temper among the students through Maharashtra Vivekvahini. Further the college encourages the students to take part in extra-curricular activities by participating in National Service Scheme, Department of Lifelong Learning and Extension, Sports, Cultural Activities, Maharashtra Vivekvahini (Maharashtra Rationalists) and Savitribai Phule Women Development Cell etc. to entertain and inculcate social awareness among the students. Majority of the inhabitants are from BPL and EBC families, and are experiencing several social problems like sanitation, poor education and health related issues. The NSS, DLLE, WDC and Vivekvahini units organize annual residential camp, voluntary blood donation camp, health check- up camp, various workshops, discussions, awareness programmes, sensitizing programmes, legal literacy programmes around the year. Many NSS volunteers have actively participated in the state level camps. The students are encouraged to organize cultural programmes celebrating national and international days. The institute provides opportunities to students for participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at university /state/national level such as sports and cultural events. The students actively participate in events as group dance, one act play, singing, poster making, rangoli etc. events every year. In addition, the college library offers Gold Cards facility to meritorious students in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Cultural: Cultural Department searches and develops the hidden cultural skills of the students, through providing various opportunities to students. The students of the college are encouraged to participate in Youth Festivals organized by the University. Students participate in one act play, mimicry, rangoli, clay modeling, street play, cartooning, singing, folk dance, group discussion, painting etc. competitions. The annual cultural days are also organized in the college, which include rose day, tie day, traditional day, etc. The department also celebrates birth and death anniversaries of national leaders and national heritage days.
